Energy Expenditure and Fueling During Exercise: Part 2

Carbohydrate intake should match the duration and intensity of exercise rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. Because the body can typically absorb and oxidize around 90–120 g of carbohydrate per hour, athletes should aim to consume as much carbohydrate as they can comfortably tolerate to sustain performance. TGut training is increadible important and it is recommended that athletes gradually increase carbohydrate intake during training so they can tolerate higher intakes on race day. Heat, cold, back-to-back training sessions, and hydration influence fueling strategy, while current research suggests that body size has little effect on carbohydrate requirements during exercise.
